The research aimed to characterize the profile of academics and correlate the training trajectory with professional insertion. The emphasis is on the family farming succession process among those from rural units. In methodological terms, the data collection took place through closed questionnaires. The target audience was 61 students and 36 graduates. Data analysis shows that 63.9% of respondents come from rural families. Others 28.8% have no parental connections with agriculture. The geographical origin of the graduates/students is in municipalities located within a radius of 60 km from São Miguel do Oeste. Desires regarding the course are similar among groups with different backgrounds, with many uncertainties persisting on the future. Changes of mind about the desired professional occupation are usual during the course year. After graduating, while waiting for job opportunities, many assume temporary jobs which differ from their aspirations.
